New CAM system successfully introduced

The better is the enemy of the good.

For this reason, we set ourselves the task of putting the subject of CAM software to the test. Our aim was to fulfil increased market requirements and, in particular, to increase productivity and quality in machining.

When selecting the most suitable system for us, we evaluated pre-selected alternatives according to the criteria relevant to us. This includes user-friendliness, modern strategies in drilling and 5-axis machining and a high degree of automation via macros, work plans, libraries, machine simulation, etc.

New features for more efficient working.

In the end, the complete solution hyperMILL from the provider OPEN MIND won the race.

Above all, we were impressed by the 5-axis technology and how easy it is to achieve a fast and precise result. HyperMILL also offers specially developed CAM strategies, such as 5-axisradialmachining and other innovative technologies. These strategies are particularly suitableforthe production of blow moulds, which, alongside injection moulds, are Rebhan Werkzeugbau’s most important product category.

Furthermore, the hyperMILL AUTOMATION Center makes it easy to standardise individual processes or an entire process for recurring components with different variants, similar features such as holes and pockets and repetitive sequences.

Of course, this type of process optimisation also requires a certain amount of time and experience in using the software. But the effort was worth it: as a result, the programming effort was noticeably reduced and errors were avoided. In certain machining processes, it was also possible to improve the surface quality of the machined workpieces.

Short introductory phase and efficient service tool.

Last but not least, we would like to emphasise the short introductory phase, which was accompanied from the outset by a very reactive support team that got in touch within a few hours and tried to resolve any issues and change requests as quickly as possible.

The status of the respective processes can be viewed and processed online via the “my hyperMILL” customer portal. It also enables access to important data at any time, whether licences, dongles, post-processors or machine models, downloads and much more.

Our conclusion to date:

Switching to the new system was exactly the right decision. From typical 2.5D machining or easy-to-learn 5-axis strategies to 5-axis drilling and process automation, hyperMILL provides us with the perfect link to CNC machining in our production.
